Crabs, they are ugly, creepy creatures for sure. Crawling around on their many legs just waiting for their next victim. You can find crabs most places in the world. And if you have ever been bitten by them, you know the torment. It is virtually impossible to shake them off of you. Forget about trying to pull them off; seems like they cling to you even more.
There is also the social thing too. Try yelling...hey I got crabs! The range of human reaction will astound you.
I have caught crabs many times. Sometimes I didn't even know I had caught crabs. Sometimes you don't even feel them. Then you may feel a little movement. While you are trying to determine if you have you caught a crab, you need to get ready to catch it. You don't want them to get away. And they are very elusive so you have to be very quick. It's best to have some sort of container with a secure lid to put them in after catching them. Because, they are very fast and will escape and then someone else will catch them. So be prepared.
And lastly, the way I caught crabs. Pay ATTENTION please.... OK, first off, the first time I caught them I was very young, probably about 13 years old. Most people are scared when they catch them but not me. I was thrilled!
I'll never will forget that feeling of pulling gently on a thin piece of string and feeling the ever-so slight tugging on the line. Slowly pulling the line from the water and feeling more resistant tugging. Inch by inch I pulled the line out of the water until finally I could see him. His claws tearing away at the bait on the line. One claw holding the bait while the other claw shoved the bait into its mouth. I slowly lowered my dip net into the water being careful not to get too close to the line and with one quick swoop pushed the net under the crab and whisked the crab from the water.
And that my friends...is how I caught crabs.
